Weekly Report 11/5/12

Post by Tony Zann » Fri May 11, 2012 3:05 pm

Estuary: Tuncurry Breakwall is the place to fish at the moment if you are after mulloway around 75cm. Most days over the past week fish from the high 60cm to 120cm have been caught. Anglers are opting for live yakkas or flicking 7” Gulps on 3/4oz heads. The racks around The Paddock and the top end of Hells Gate have produced some mighty healthy bream, with fish up to 43cm reported. Breckenridge Channel is also fishing well with good reports of flathead around on the run-out tide. Blackfish are starting to migrate along the wall plus at the Tuncurry Point near Boatland Marine. Resident blackfish angler Rocky has fished Tuncurry Point each morning for mixed results, but all quality fish.
Rock: Good-sized mack tuna have been hooked at Seagull Point during the week, while kingfish are around Latitude Rock closer to Burgess Beach end.
Offshore: The full moon last weekend and throughout the week has bought the trag on in big schools. Most late afternoons just before dark, anglers have headed to sea for good results. A few guys fished the reefs at Blackhead last Sunday and floating a pilchard down a berley trail snagged a good size Spanish. Reports also that off-course rainbow runners have migrated south and have caused a few problems stealing baits. Local police officer Ken Nicholson spent a week up north being tormented by these fish known as marlin baits and then came home to land one off Forster – watch out, Ken, they are following you!
Beach: Good reports from Tuncurry Beach with tailor weighing in at 2.8kg cleaned. Plenty around 1.5kg. Jewfish are plentiful off Diamond and Old Bar beaches on dark.
