30/09/05 Weekly Report

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Sep 30, 2005 9:14 am

Offshore: Reports of patches of warm water wide of Five Mile Reef give credence to rumours that there are already mahi mahi on the FAD. Several striped marlin have been seen free jumping along with a steady stream of whales on their way south. Most reefs have reasonable snapper on offer and if you head north, drop a live bait for one of the occasional samson fish that's hanging around.
Beaches: Another run of salmon has provided sport for holiday makers. An ever-increasing number of whiting and dart remind us that summer is just around the corner. Tailor are scarce.
Rocks: Those who have been for a dive along the rocks tell me that the drummer remain thick, as do the mulloway. Still plenty of bream being taken along with what tailor are available.
Estuary: The current prawn dark has been a little disappointing, but the fishing generally is good. Lots of flathead being taken throughout the system with plenty of bream and mullet reported well up the Wallamba River. Some whiting are being caught. A couple of large trevally have been caught, which we don't see too often inside the lake.
