Weekly Report 3/9/12

Post by Tony Zann » Mon Sep 03, 2012 9:41 am

Estuary: Reports are that the estuary is a bit quiet at the moment with only a few fishos landing a feed of bream. Shane Crockett fished the racks hard with Z-Man 2” Grubz and Hidden Weight jig heads for 16 legal bream, while another holidaymaker fished the back of Tuncurry Tourist Park for five nice flathead on whitebait. The bridge pylons at night are fishing the best, with good-sized bream common after dark.
Rock: Pretty much that same as the past few weeks with still plenty of drummer on the bite along with XOS groper everywhere. Rock cod are causing a problem for some, however. My rockhopper reporters tell me that they are using cooked prawns as bait and berley only if necessary. Too much berley brings around the rubbish fish which are grabbing everyone’s baits. Burgess Beach rocks are fishing the best. Big seas over the last week or so have produced plenty of bait along the rocks so get amongst them while the going is good!
Offshore: Most anglers are targeting the flathead at the moment and are happy to get a bag limit of fish around 65cm within two hours or so. Snapper are still around in good numbers although only small. Jackets are still on but reports indicate that the numbers are backing off. The catch of the week was by Paul Johnston who landed a 30kg bass groper along with five bar cod to 11kg up north and out wide.
Beach: Blueys Beach seems to be firing well with reports of quality bream up to 1.3kg happy to take flesh baits or beachworms on the top of the tide. Nice tailor along One Mile just on sunrise with Robbie Thorrington landing a 4kg greenback on a metal spinner.
