Weekly Report 15/10/12

Post by Tony Zann » Mon Oct 15, 2012 9:10 am

Estuary: Good results on the flathead along most of the island drop-offs this week, with fish up to 70cm common and the majority of catches around 45cm. Most have been caught on the drift flicking whitebait up towards the shore on the run-out tide. Tuncurry Breakwall has produced a few good-sized school jewfish around the 90cm mark, taking worms as baits. The northern side of the breakwall along the beach in the wash will also produce fish. Blackfish are still around with the black boat fishing well and the washboards along the racks have big fish. Whiting are still plentiful, but you will need to travel down the back of the lake a bit.
Rock: No reports this week – sorry!
Offshore: Offshore is working well with most reefs allowing anglers to get a good feed. Trag are still around after dark, while just before sunrise try floating whole squid along a berley trail for quality snapper to 7kg. Still plenty of flathead to go around, with The Barge rewarding all that drop a line down.
Beach: Back of Tiona has plenty of bream happily taking worms or small strips of slimy mackerel. Last weekend plus mid week jewfish anglers have done well with fish from 75cm up to 1.2m caught on worms.
