Weekly Report 3/11/12

Post by Tony Zann » Sat Nov 03, 2012 1:38 pm

Estuary: Whiting have started to hit the lake in good numbers with The Step and the channel behind Tern Island working well. Best results using 2” Gulp Worm rigged on a small-long shank hook coupled with a small pea sinker. Up the lead weight fishing in the deeper water at The Step. A few good-sized bream were landed on small chunk-style lures around the racks along the edge Hadleys Island near Hells Gate. Tailor still common near the bridge at night and are taking metal lures.
Rocks: Only report is from Janies Corner and a little north around the corner at Shark Rock. Good tailor in the wash early in the week, while on Thursday night a few guys landed jewfish around 50cm.
Offshore: Water temperature has started to rise with a check this week showing 23° one day. The warm current has brought the fish in closer with a few boats reporting good catches of reef fish such as morwong, snapper and nannygai. A little wider have been the first few kings to be caught – small, but at least they are there. Flathead are common on the drift, while a few pearl perch were caught down south off the end of Seven Mile.
Beach: Good reports from Tuncurry Beach with tailor around 40cm common. Still a few jew working up north but you will need to fish late in the night using worms or live bait. Seven Mile off Tiona Camp ground for saw mixed bags of tailor, bream and whiting each afternoon.
