Weekly Report 9/11/12

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Nov 09, 2012 4:45 pm

Estuary: Wallis Lake with both trumpeter and sand whiting. Anglers are getting best results using Gulp 2” Sandworms rigged on No 6 long-shank hooks and small split shot. Fish The Wires at Tuncurry early morning for the trumpeters; for the larger sandies go farther into the lake around The Step. Hardbodies are also working well, with the normal lures such as SugaPen 70, Pop 50 and Stiffy FRV getting results over the flats. Give Green Point and the sailing club a try. Flathead are still building in numbers this week with fish 40cm–45cm very common. Baits on the drift are working along with plastics. Tuncurry and Forster breakwalls are working fir small mulloway, tailor at night and good bream on the ends. Prawns are on for the next few nights with one boat midweek getting 5 litres along the top of the Breckenridge Channel. You should get prawns for a few more nights in the dark, but remember a cotton net will ensure results. Don’t get caught out with an inferior nylon net or you will be wasting your time.
Rock: Quiet week with too much wind so no reports.
Offshore: Again a little quiet this week with strong NE winds most days. A few guys did get out early one morning and got a few trag up off Elsies and on the way home fished a few reefs for plate size snapper. Word is that once the sun woke up the fish went to bed.
Beach: Beaches have been hit and miss this week. The NE winds have created some new formations while reports are that a heap of smaller bait fish have been schooling up along the gutters. Tailor are here today and gone tomorrow but those who have got onto them have come back with some quality fish. Still a few mulloway around at night taking live worms.
