Weekly Report 6/1/13

Post by Tony Zann » Sun Jan 06, 2013 2:41 pm

Estuary: Fish, fish and more everywhere. The lake is well and truly stocked now with great catches of flathead and whiting each day. Both are being caught on soft plastics with no particular lure a favourite at the moment. Bream are plentiful, however they are amongst the racks further up lake around Beaky Bay or the Wang Wauk or Coolongoolook rivers on bait. Green Point on the flats will reward anglers with plenty of whiting taking poppers. Both breakwalls are fishing well for jewfish on live bait or whole dead squid. Plenty of mud crabs in the system and prawns will start to run from tonight through till midweek. Cotton prawn nets are essential if you want half a chance.
Rock: Most rock ledges are fishing well. Good bream are along most shores and will take cunjevoi or large Hawkesbury prawns. A few smaller kingfish have been spun up down near Charlottes Head early morning. Sharks are cruising the rocks as well with a few anglers getting surprised at the size of some.
Offshore: Warm currents are slowly making their way down the coast with temps around 23° some days. Out wide of the FAD the water is up over 24° and great pockets of fish are in the warm water. Reef fish are everywhere in closer, and trag are on the chew at dark. Plenty of flathead around on the sand and gravel. Up north the reefs have had plenty of good size morwong.
Beach: A few tailor on the southern end of Seven Mile. Tuncurry Beach has plenty of bream and dart along with a few small jewfish at night. Boomerang Beach has rewarded a few holidaymakers with jew up to 80cm. Whiting are schooling on most beaches and will take worms on most casts.
I have been told that Fisheries officers are very active in our area at the moment. Please ensure that you obey all regulations. Current NSW recreational fishing handbooks are available from Fisheries in Tuncurry or our store.
We will be open every day from 8am until late for all your tackle and bait requirements.
