Weekly Report 5/4/13

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Apr 05, 2013 2:34 pm

Estuary: It’s hard to catch an undersize bream in the lake at the moment. Fish averaging 30-33cm are very common and plenty of them. Most are being caught on bonito strips. Holidaymakers are tangling with flathead along Tuncurry Point and across on Tern Island. A few reports of whiting taking surface poppers off Green Point.
Rock: The rocks are still firing. Plenty of good LBG fish being caught off Charlottes Head and Flat Rock. Cobia, mack tuna and longtails have been caught this week on live bait. One report of a small marlin hooked but it broke the 30lb leader in no time. Heaps of sharks happily feeding on anglers’ catches before being landed. Plenty of half bodies and heads have been landed this week.
Offshore: Lakes and Ocean FC member Fred Bevridge reported that last Monday morning his crew got among the 3kg trag before sunrise. Once the sun came up the fish went to bed. A few pearl perch and good snapper are on most reefs in close.
Beach: Probably not the pick of spots at the moment. Not much structure around and only a few reports of fish this week. Kane Loreton and Harry got a few jew last weekend, while a few holidaymakers caught tailor late in the afternoon early in the week on the high tide.
