Weekly Report 17/5/13

Post by Tony Zann » Fri May 17, 2013 3:51 pm

Estuary: Bream anglers are having a ball at the moment with fish in sizes unheard of in the lake. Andrew Smart fished the racks along the Breckenridge Channel just on dark during the week and came home with 14 quality fish all over 33cm. Technique was a bit of berley to get the fish interested and then an unweighted Hawkesbury prawn slowly retrieved back to the boat. Further into the lake near Hells Gate has also seen plenty of good fish, right down to the weed beds at the back of Lani’s Caravan Park. Z-Man plastics worked on a small Hidden Weight jighead will ensure good fish. Luderick are along the wall and the rack washboards, but getting through the mullet schools is near impossible – today’s westerly winds will fix the mullet problem, we hope. Nice bream also are being landed along the Tuncurry breakwall. A few scattered reports of some good-sized flathead in the lake and higher up in the rivers.
Rocks: A few local guys spun metals off McBrides during the week for a few small kingfish and a heap of bonito. Seagull Point near Elizabeth Beach is working well with mixed bags of tailor, bream and drummer. Janies Corner is turning up tailor on dark most afternoons.
Offshore: Not many reports this week other than the commercial guys reporting that plenty of trag still around at night while small plate-size snapper are on the bite just on sunrise.
Beach: Tuncurry Beach right up to Blackhead is fishing well for tailor. Mixed feedback that both metals and ganged pilchards are working although it seems that more guys are getting fish on metals. Seven Mile has a few small jewfish in the gutters and are accompanied by plenty of sharks.
