Weekly Report 23/8/13

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Aug 23, 2013 3:36 pm

Estuary: A week of full moon and a high pressure system has certainly bought the fish on. Jewfish of 4-6kg have been landed off the breakwall most nights while bream anglers are having fun chasing fish among the oyster racks. Soft plastics are working in the racks, as is bait coupled up with a good berley trail. Reports of some nice 45cm-plus flathead in Ohmas Bay along Taree Street. A few good-sized sand whiting along the western shoreline of Miles Island at Forster.
Rocks: Groper are teasing anglers on the calm days but getting a hook-up is frustrating. The whitewater is producing good-sized drummer on peeled green prawns with a heap of bread berley. Plenty of garfish along the rocks down at Seal Rocks, bream plentiful on any shoreline.
Offshore: A few good reports of flathead on The Barge. Up north as far as Chini and the Snapper Grounds anglers are getting plenty of reds from plate size up to 6-7kg. A few locals went to the shelf last week and landed some nice bar cod.
Beach: Not much to report. Westerly winds don’t help matters! A few jewfish were caught at night off Blueys on Thursday night using whole squid. Scattered mixed bags the rest of the time made up of bream and tailor.
