Weekly Report 30/8/13

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Aug 30, 2013 2:54 pm

Estuary: On the quiet side at the moment with only a few fishos landing a feed of bream. A few guys have worked the racks on the high tide in kayaks and have gone OK. Warwick Thompson reported that last Sunday he landed over a dozen flathead using small hard body lures, most fish in the low 40cm. A few golden trevally around the mid-40s along the Tuncurry Breakwall late in the afternoon.
Rock: Groper everywhere, is what I hear. Rock cod are causing a problem for some. Anglers are saying that they are using cooked prawns as bait and bread berley if necessary. Too much berley seems to bring every bit of rubbish around to dine on prawn baits. Boomerang Beach northern end rocks are fishing the best, with plenty of bream and a few good size jewfish.
Offshore: Most anglers are targeting the flathead at the moment and are getting good results if they can get through the jackets. The ocean is loaded in jackets, so be prepared to rig up accordingly. North around Dennis Shoals and Chini is producing snapper although only small plate size.
Beach: Most beaches seem to be firing well with good reports of quality bream happy to take flesh baits or beachworms on the top of the tide. Early morning fishos have got among the tailor on Seven Mile with a few monsters landed amongst the keepers.
Thanks to everyone who voted for our store in the AFTA Australia’s Best Bait and Tackle Store Award. Although we did not win, getting down to the final five stores in the country is something we are very proud of.
