Weekly Report 27/9/13

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Sep 27, 2013 4:24 pm

Estuary: Flathead are common here in good numbers up to mid 60cm. Bait fishos have had success using mullet strips or Hawkesbury prawns while the lure fishos have hit the jackpot with Z-Man Minnowz soft plastics. Bream are slowly disappearing for summer but around the racks good numbers are still to be found. Trumpeter whiting are in big numbers along the shoreline at Green Point, flicking surface poppers plus at The Step on beachworms at sunrise, along with a few garfish on the surface. Prawns will start to run from tonight on the run-out tide – Remember you need a cotton net to get a good feed.
Rock: Groper still along most shorelines, along with plenty of drummer. Get a bag of black crabs or cunje for best bait. Large peeled prawns will work as well. A few bream are being caught along the back of Seal Rocks.
Offshore: Trag and snapper are the pick of the fish. Recreational and commercial fishos are all getting plenty of fish, while I am told the flathead are thick on The Barge.
Beach: Holidaymakers staying at Tiona have reported the odd whiting along the back of the camping ground. A few jewfish close to Janies Corner at night.
