Weekly Report 06/12/13

Post by Nicole Penfold » Fri Dec 06, 2013 6:05 pm

The Flathead in the Lake are starting to make their way up onto the flats on high tide, with a few guys landing some thumpers on surface poppers! Whilst on popping, Whiting up to now 35cm are starting to be a common sight and will happily chase a Bassday Sugapen or similar on the surface. Bait fisherman are getting equally good results using beach worms or soft plastic worms. Chris Maconachie from Forster Beach Holiday Park reported that plenty of 'elbow slappers' (40cm+ Whiting) are schooling up around The Paddock.

Jewfish up and over the 20kg mark are lazing around the break wall. Live Yellowtail and Herring are working well, and Soft Plastics anglers are getting a feed as well. A few guys have indicated that juvenile sharks are also hanging around the wall, and are also visible up on the lake side of the bridge chasing small Tailor.

Very quiet with hardly any reports. One report was that a few good 40cm Bream caught off Janies Corner along with a bag of small pesky wrasse.

Again fairly quiet with the Lakes & Ocean FC boys last Sunday only landing 42 mixed fish weighing in at 42kg. Trag up to 1.5kg are common, medium-size pearl perch down south and small but legal flathead on the gravel was the update.

Whiting have been plentiful along the town beach. One can only think that this is because the Tuncurry beach at the moment is loaded with sandworms – grab those worm pliers and catch a few for bait. A few Shovel nose Sharks have made life interesting for a few visitors just on dark.
