Weekly Report 27/12/13

Post by Nicole Penfold » Fri Dec 27, 2013 4:51 pm

Visitors and locals have been having great fun on flathead over the last few days with great catches of 45-50cm fish common. Most anglers are using Hawksbury River Prawns or soft plastics such as 70mm Squidgy Fish or Ecooda Live Shrimp. Whiting are still in good schools near Tuncurry Bridge in the channel plus on the flats at the back of Lanis Caravan Park. Good catches also reported from the back of Lakeside Resort Park in Pipers Bay. Poppers are still working well down the back off Green Point on the weed beds. Kayak anglers working the oyster racks are fighting large Bream on soft plastics or whitebait. Crabs are everywhere and prawns are still running for another week or so.

Reports of groper around McBrides with a few good blackfish amongst them. A good burley trail will get them on the bite, although it can attract “toothy” critters as well that take fish before you can land them.

Local fishos have reported good snapper up to 6kg at the 30 metre mark and are taking Lucanus jigs. In close there are still plenty of Flathead on the gravel. Out wide the water is still a bit cool at only 19 degrees so the fish are a little sparse. A few guys trolled around and got some small but legal Kingfish on Orca style lures.

Whiting at Elizabeth are common late in the afternoon. A few good jewfish were caught on Christmas night off Blueys Beach along with heaps of Shovelnose sharks. Tuncurry Beach North near Back beach at Blackhead has produced good Bream on pilchard fillets.
A reminder to all our visiting friends that we will be open over the Christmas period every day from 8.00am till late.
