Weekly Report 03/01/14

The lake is well and truly stocked now with great catches of Flathead and Whiting reported each day. Both species are being caught on soft plastics with no particular lure a favourite at the moment. Large Bream are plentiful, however they are amongst the racks further up lake and are taking unweighted Hawkesbury Prawns as baits. Bass and Bream in the river system are going mad on surface lures replicating cicadas. Green Point on the flats will reward anglers with plenty of Whiting taking poppers. Both breakwalls are fishing well for Jewfish on live baits or whole dead squid. There are plenty of Mudcrabs in the system with Blue Swimmers on the flats at the back of Dago Island.

Most rock ledges are fishing well. Good Bream are along most shores with Janies Corner a must visit location. Again, large Hawkesbury Prawns are the pick of the baits. A few Tailor have been taking metals in the wash on most headlands.

Warm currents are slowly making their way down the coast with temps around 23 degrees at the FAD on New Year's Day. Out wider of the FAD, temperatures are up over 24 degrees and as such have great pockets of fish amongst the warm water. Watch out for working birds as these areas will definitely produce fish. Commercial boats are reporting plenty of Teraglin down south, while up north at Snapper Rock the Rock Cod are there in numbers. Flathead are in the normal gravel spots.

A very quiet week on the beaches with virtually no wash and a flat sea. Dart and Whiting early morning are around the southern end of Tuncurry Beach behind the Sporties Club taking beachworms.

I have been told that NSW DPI officers (Fisheries) are very active in our area at the moment. Please ensure that you obey all regulations. Current NSW recreational fishing handbooks are available from Fisheries in Tuncurry or our store.

We will be open every day from 8.00am till late for all your tackle and bait requirements.
