Weekly Report 10/01/14

Estuary
Welcome to 2014 and let’s hope that the fishing gets better this year. A visiting tourist from Victoria came into the store last week and reported that she had landed a good bag of fish from Smiths Lake.In one afternoon she was rewarded with 4 good size flounder, 2 45cm plus Dusky Flathead and 3 legal whiting – not a bad afternoon's fishing! All fish were caught on the faithful Hawksbury prawns.

The main lake is still producing good stocks of flathead taking a variety of baits, plus the Eccooda Live Shrimp lure is a winner. Whiting are still around near the sailing club with most being caught on poppers or beachworms.

The Wallamba River up around the ski park is producing nice bream, although you need to work hard. A bit of berley and mullet gut as a bait will get results. A few mulloway have been taken from the Tuncurry break wall each night mainly using live pike as the bait.

Rock
The rock ledge in Janie’s Corner has produced some nice bream using stripy tuna strip baits, along with a few bonito spun up on metals.

Offshore
Some very healthy reports from offshore this week with the water temperature out wide up to 25.5 degrees near the FAD. Fred Beveridge and his brother got amongst the snapper last week up north in 40m of water. 3kg, 3.5kg and 7kg fish were amongst 10 teraglin, all over 45cm. Gravel Beds are still full of flathead around the mid 50cm mark.

Beach

A very quiet week with a flat beach. Small amounts of whiting are being caught and the odd dart.
