Weekly Report 31/01/14

Post by Nicole Penfold » Fri Jan 31, 2014 9:24 pm

Estuary
The recent Prawn dark has stirred up the flathead with great fish taking large unweighted Hawkesbury prawns on the weed beds and flats. Heaps of Whiting are chasing poppers on the flats with Green Point and the sailing club working well. We've had our best results on a Sugapen 70 lure.

Breckenridge Channel near Blue Peter boat shed has resulted in good catches for those wanting to drift along with whitebait. Oyster leases across from Barclay Oyster sheds are full of bream that will take a small hardbody lure just on dusk.

Bass are firing well up the Wallamaba River near Dargavilles Crossing and will take small divers, however surface lures resembling cicadas work the best. Fish over 40cm are being taken off the crossing bridge.

The ski parks at Failford have plenty of mudcrabs along the shoreline but keep your eye on your trap!

Rock
Bonito are schooling up along the rocks and are taking metal spinners. A few anglers are happy to get amongst the bream using black crabs as bait. You may well need a bit of berley to get them going though!

Offshore
Northeast winds have kept boats on trailers again this week. Early in the week a few guys from Forster Sporties club FC fished and got amongst good morwong, huge pearl perch (some over 3kg), flathead by the dozens and a few good pan-size reds. Other reports are a few good fish on the 40m mark on reef grounds and out wide at the FAD the start of a few small mahi mahi in water at 25 degrees.

Beach
No reports this week!
