Weekly Report 28/02/14

Post by Nicole Penfold » Fri Feb 28, 2014 11:53 am

Estuary
The lake is still producing good catches of Whiting down at the Step with good reports coming in most days. Flathead are still on the bite with the area near the bridge on the Tuncurry side firing well plus the drift along the shallows at the back of Tern Island. Good reports of fish around the 55cm mark are common with the odd large ‘girl’ amongst them with one girl released after she measured in a t 106cm!

Bream anglers have been hauling out of the racks down at The Paddock after dark. Tuncurry breakwall is fishing well near the Kiosk with Flathead taking soft plastics along the edges. More reports have been received of anglers being spooled by sharks again along the breakwall.

Blue Swimmers and Muddies are still around in both the lake and up the rivers. Prawns are still running through till Sunday night – remember a cotton net will work the best!

Rock
Tailor reports in good numbers off Janies Corner taking metal spinners. There are ream amongst the wash off Bennetts Head.

Offshore
Good reports of Mahi Mahi out at the FAD. Most fish caught are over 80cm. Reef Fish are still in good numbers with some good snapper around the 2-3kg mark caught up north. Bonito are everywhere and all that is needed is a simple ½ x ¼ metal lure to catch them. Out wide I have heard that a few small Black Marlin are around while in close sharks are plentiful.

Beach
Tailor have started and from what I hear Tuncurry Beach is firing well up near the back of the Tip. Southern Beaches are firing as well. Jewfish are there with a few caught up off Farquer last weekend.
