Weekly Report 21/03/14

Estuary
Fish everywhere is the comments I am hearing each day through the shop doors as locals and tourists alike are hitting the boat ramp with a box of mixed species to clean. Land based anglers fishing at the end of Point Road at the back of the oyster sheds are being rewarded with nice flathead up around the mid 40’s mark plus good quality bream. The pick of the baits here has been Hawkesbury Prawns.

The swimming baths in Little Street is producing nice bream at night, fishing with little or no sinker and floating baits out into the channel.

Those heading into the Lake should try the drift around the back of Tern Island on the run out tide for Flathead on whitebait or concentrate around the floating oyster racks with small hard body lures for bream. Beware thou I have had a lot of reports of ‘half’ bream being landed after the Bull Sharks residing in the oyster racks are taking fish on the retrieve. Blackfish have arrived along the Tuncurry breakwall near the bridge with good reports of fish up to 2lb caught on the flood tide.

Plenty of Mud Crabs and Blue Swimmers still in the lake system. Prawns should start to run this Sunday night.

Rock
Only one report this week of some good Blackfish around Bennetts Head. A few guys fished Charlottes Head with live bait but reports were not worth reporting. Bonito still plentiful everywhere.

Offshore
As reported last week the FAD is loaded with Dolphinfish. Absolute heaps of small fish are there for the fun with bigger fish down deeper. Trag are in closer as are plenty of small snapper. Flathead on the gravel two at a time are common. Charter boats are reporting good size pig fish down south.
Beach: Mixed reports still with only a small number of tailor around. Bream are in close gutters taking strip flesh baits. A few Whiting caught early morning down at Tiona.
