Weekly Report 04/04/14

Post by Nicole Penfold » Fri Apr 04, 2014 12:28 pm

Estuary
The last few days has certainly made a few more anglers smile with Bream and the start of good size Blackfish filling into the lake. Common baits for the bream is of course good quality Hawkesbury Prawns thrown into a light burley trail unweighted if you can. Blackfish are funnily taking a peeled prawn piece and of course are very happy to take some weed or cabbage. It seems that the Flathead are slowly fading away for winter recess with only a few reports this week of nice plate size fish being caught, however the ones caught are still of very good quality and are a nice size up to and around the 50cm mark. Soft Plastics are the pick here to catch these tasty morsels.

Rock
Rock Spies have told me that large Tailor have been a common catch along the shoreline near McBrides Beach. Large Kingfish have been spooling guys down near Burgess while chasing Drummer. Gropher are there but are taking everyone straight into the rocks to escape.

Offshore
Still plenty of good size Bonito are being caught everywhere – some fish are measuring in excess of 500mm! Trag at night on the bottom in about 70m of water while Jew are common in the slower water around 22m. Still plenty of good Flathead on the gravel, while the FAD is still working well with Dolphinfish.

Beach
Beaches are still hit and miss at the moment with fisho’s experiencing great beach fishing one day and bad the next. Tailor are starting to fill in the wash while Bream have been plentiful along the gutters.
The photo of the week came into the shop today and it was not the prize fish on board a boat. Lets try for a photo of Flathead Fillets for sale in a fish shop window in Sydney at $53.99 per kg ! I am surprised fisho’s are not being held up on the ramp and being mugged. I am sure some guys are coming home with over $600 worth of Lizards in the fish box!
With School Holidays now upon us over the next few weeks just a reminder that we will be open every day from 8.00am till 5.00pm for all your fishing and camping needs. And if boating on the lake or offshore please remember your PFD requirements plus your boat ramp etiquette on launching and retrieval.
