Weekly Report 25/04/14

Post by Nicole Penfold » Fri Apr 25, 2014 2:40 pm

Estuary
Plenty of Flathead still around on the flats and in amongst the weedy banks. Most are being caught on soft plastics with Ecooda Live Shrimp lures working best skipped along the bottom. Bait fishos are doing just as well using whitebait. Nice bream around 750g are taking hard bodies in the oyster racks. Tuncurry Point is fishing well for Blackfish. Leather Jackets along the washboards in The Paddock. Crabs are still everywhere with reports of traps having in excess of 10 crabs at a time! Prawn Dark is in its final days although this week Tiger Prawns in the lake are everywhere. One local reported 23kg in one night and this was his biggest haul of Tigers in 30 years!

Rock
Plenty of Groper action along most shorelines taking black crabs or lightly weighted cunjevoi. Eels are causing problems thou taking baits and gear back into the rocks. Janies corner is fishing well for good Tailor around the 3kg mark and nice bream up to 40cm. Further south around Treachery a few Kings have been spun up along with a Cobia.

Offshore
Snapper from 2kg up to 5kg are being taken north on the 23 metre mark. Bigger fish a bit wider in 30 metres. Cobia down south all around the 12kg mark. FAD is still firing with Dolphin Fish jumping on live baits, strip baits and trolled lures. Unfortunately, I am still receiving many many reports of bad behaviour out at the FAD. Inconsiderate anglers are trolling fast within boat lengths of other boats and the FAD with some hooking onto the FAD. Please give consideration to other boaters so everyone can enjoy the facility. Normal grounds still have plenty of Flathead and most in close reefs will provide fish for a feed.

Beach
Another off and on week with early in the week plenty of Tailor and a few XL Salmon. Later in the week no fish at all. In close to Tuncurry Breakwall a few small Jewfish have been caught – some legal and some not! Dart on most beaches along with the odd bream.
