Report 11/07/14

Estuary
The cold weather and plenty of cooler westerly winds have seen the lake water temperature drop a few degrees in the past week causing fish to ‘go off’ a bit. Plenty of reports of chopper tailor have been caught at The Step plus around the bridge at sunset or thereafter. Those chasing bream seem to have done better on bait than lures in the last few days with Pipis and gutbaits working well. Commercial crabbers have done well this week on a run of late season crabs. The Jewfish along the breakwalls have also shown signs of improvement with locals Chris Reggers and Rob Voorby getting 3 good size fish last weekend on plastics. Blackfish numbers are on the increase, although green weed is still like ‘hens teeth’.

Rock
Bream, tailor and plenty of drummer have all been reported this week. Bread has always been a popular berley with drummer fishos, with many fisho’s telling me that they are also using it as their bait in lieu of cunjevoi or cooked prawns. A few good Tailor still lurking around the stones at Janies Corner.

Offshore
A rather frustrating run of weather last week has seen many boats stay in the shed. Those that did brave the cold westerly’s have been staying in close to headlands. This in conjunction with the offshore wind has been the best option with Latitude Rock one of the few spots to fish. Small plate size snapper, tailor and a few leatherjackets have been caught. In the deeper water plenty of action for those who want a feed of jackets – remember to rig up with wire or it will be a expensive terminal tackle day!

Beach
There has not been much of a swell in the last few days which has made beach fishing a bit unproductive. Seven Mile Beach has been providing plenty of tailor with the odd Salmon amongst them. There are still some bream being reported along with a run of Dart over the last week.
