Report 05/09/14

Estuary: The recent and continuing rain has certainly fired the Lake up a bit with plenty of fresh flowing down into the estuary. Again another strong week of good catches of Blackfish in both the lake leases and along the two main breakwalls. A few good quality Jewfish have been landed along Forster and Tuncurry walls with many tipping the scales at the 20kg mark. A few hard luck stories have been heard as well of the big one right up to the wall....remember your gaff guys!! A few Spring Trumpeter Whiting appeared in the back of the lake last weekend all caught on beach worms.

Rock: Madness is the word for rock fishing the last week or so. The Marine rescue guys tell me that seas pounding the shore up to 5 meters were common for most of the week. So on that note I have no reports. However, when it does calm down fishing should be at its best with plenty of food around the rocks and water that is dirty giving the fish a bit of cover in close.

Offshore: Last Monday saw a perfect offshore day (the only one of the week). Larry Thompson and his crew hit the seas for a very rewarding day. Six snapper from 2kg – 6kg, a few Pigfish, one Trag, and a few Flathead on the way home saw Larry busy on the cleaning tables.

Beach: Not much happening other than big seas. Although a few guys fished the beach at Seal Rocks on Wednesday and got amongst some good Tailor on metal spinners.

Last minute Fathers Day Gifts are still in store – open till 5pm Saturday.
