Report 13/11/14

Post by subeditor » Thu Nov 13, 2014 11:22 am

Estuary: The Jewfish have started to return to the breakwall, with a couple of good reports over the last week. Although only small (around the 12lb mark) it is a positive sign for the next few months. Lures such as Gulp 6” Nemesis , Rapala UV X Rap hard bodies have both worked a treat. The Tuncurry Side of the bridge around the old wharf piles has seen some decent size Flathead caught, particularly on the run out tide. Again soft Plastics swum on a 3/8 or ¼ oz head works well or bait anglers are hitting the mark using Hawkesbury Prawns. Further up the lake the Trumpter whiting are still active each morning between Hells Gate and The Step – I was told that one morning over 20 boats were in the channel. Be warned though Maritime officers are active and those caught anchored in the channel will be infringed. Bream on lures is working with the racks firing.
Rock: Some great drummer have been caught down near Seal Rocks, with Bream still on along Janies Corner shoreline although on the northern end I am told. A couple of Groper are around being caught on small black crabs.

Offshore: A few mixed reports of species such as Pearl Perch, Trag and Snapper all common. Flathead are everywhere (even on some reefs!). Fisheries have advised that the FAD has been returned for summer – the new co ordinates are 32° 13.211S 152 ° 40.680E.

Beach: Tuncurry Beach and Diamond Beach has provided some excellent fishing over the last week with Salmon common. Holiday makers up at the resort at Diamond have mentioned that early each morning Whiting have been on the bite as well. The late afternoon Nor Easters are making it difficult to fish the beaches so get out early or leave it till just on dark.

A reminder to all the new NSW fishing regulations came into force last Monday – we have new brochures in store.
