Report 8/2/15

Post by subeditor » Thu Jan 08, 2015 11:13 am

Estuary: Vistors coming into the shop are telling us that there is plenty of fish to go around. Trumpter Whiting in big numbers are cruising most of the sand flats around the lake with most anglers successful early morning using cured beachworms. Sand Whiting varying from just shy of legal size right up to 40cm “elbow slappers” are taking poppers along the flats with Green Point down to the Sailing Club producing good results. Sugapen 70 Lure is by far the best lure hands down! Flathead continue to be grab anything that moves with many reports of nice table fish around the 55cm mark common. Bait fisho’s are picking Hawkesbury Prawns as the choice bait while the soft plastic guys are grabbing Ecooda Live Shrimp lures. Check these out as we have a 4 Lures for $20 on special at the moment. Tuncurry and Forster breakwalls are working well with plenty of very large Jewfish coming to grief every few days.
Crabs are in big numbers with Blue swimmers all over the Lake. Muddies are in good supply as well and are being trapped up the rivers.
Rock: Spearos tell me that rocky shorelines are loaded with good size Blue nose Bream plus still the odd Drummer in close. A few small Jewfish are also schooling up along Janies Corner shore on the Northern end.
Offshore: Plenty of fish are on every reef. Good reports of mixed bags coming home on most boats. Locals Ken Nicholson and Mike Jones grabbed a box of mixed fish during the week with Trag, Pearl Perch, Snapper and Flathead filling the box. Sharks in close are being caught off Blackhead with plenty of small Hammerheads causing a bit of grief to anglers gear. Down south reports of Pearl Perch up to 3kg are being caught just on sunrise. Pick of the baits here has been whole California Squid or those that wish to jig up a snapper a few guys have had success using small micro jigs.
Beach: Beaches still working well with good structure forming along most caused by the good nor easter’s crashing the beaches. Bags of Whiting chewing on beachworm baits are rewarding holidaymakers who are up early. Schools of Salmon are everywhere taking Pilly baits or metals.
Great lakes Tackle is open every day over the summer holidays from 8.00am till late stocking plenty of tackle, camping gear plus our new range of snorkelling and spearfishing equipment.
