Report 26/2/15

Post by subeditor » Thu Feb 26, 2015 2:16 pm

Estuary: With the weather staying fine this week more anglers have hit the water with good results had by most. The lake system has produced some really good table size flathead up to the 50cm mark and mainly caught on soft plastics, however one visitor and his wife landed 8 fish on the run out tide drifting with Hawkesbury Prawns as bait along the Breckenridge Channel. Bream have been low in numbers however a few were caught on the turn of the tide on whitebait across from Barclays Shed casting the bait close to the oyster racks. A few reports have trickled in of Blackfish biting at the end of Taree Street along the banks. All sand flat areas are loaded with good sand Whiting.
Forster wall has produced Jewfish all around 20lb this week on the run out tide either on live Herring or the boys using the larger size soft plastics such as Zerek Flat Shad or Panther Martins.
Rock: Good Bream off Janie’s Corner and along the end of Burgess beach. A few rat kingfish are smashing metals being spun along most shorelines as far south as the back of Seal Rocks.
Offshore: Much better fishing this week with reports from the commercial boats indicating that plenty of Bonito are around in big schools. Out at the FAD I am hearing that Mahi Mahi are being landed out at the with water temp at around 26 degrees. A few more Black Marlin are being landed by both recreational and charter boat anglers with Forster Sportfishing Charters tagging a couple during the week. Plenty of Sharks are cruising around boats which is adding a bit of extra excitement!
Beach: Tuncurry Main Beach and right along Nine Mile has rewarded all with good quality Dart and super elbow slapper Whiting. Whiting in excess of 40 cm have been common with beach worms the choice bait. Up north Caine Loreton and friends got amongst the Jewfish at Farquer Inlet again using beachworms. Plenty of school fish were reported however a few good keepers were landed as well.
