Report 13/3/15

Post by subeditor » Fri Mar 13, 2015 1:42 pm

Estuary: This week the lake has fired up with some good large Flathead deciding to play the game. The warm days has bought these fish up onto the flats. A few reports from locals have been received of fish this week over the 70cm mark with most being caught on Whitebait or Hawkesbury prawns. Bream around the ½ kg mark have been lured out from under the racks along with a few good fish caught up near Tuncurry Holiday Park on the Wallamba River. Still a mile of live bait around with plenty to chose from including Pike, Herring and Yakkas in and around the wharves and under the bridge. A few guys tried out the Live Shrimp 50mm prawn to catch Pike and have reported that these are being smashed. Early evening after dark Chopper Tailor have been causing havoc by busting off gear for those un prepared. A few Mulloway have also been caught from Forster Breakwall with reports this week of fish in the 20lb mark common. Crabs are plentiful.
Rock: A few nice fish off Latitude Rock with mixed species including YellowFin and Kings amongst them. However the large toothed critters are also off the rocks with one local chasing Northern Blue Tuna from Charlottes Head hooked a ‘grey’ large fish about 2metres last Saturday – he lost all his gear! This report amongst others throughout the week on the media indicates that alot of Sharks are present chasing Bonito and balls of bait.
Offshore: Dolphin Fish at the FAD up to the 1 metre mark and some. They are loving baits such as Slimys with a few guys still managing a catch on lures. Up north at Snapper Rock anglers plus a few spearo’s report heaps of good Spanish Mackerel up to the 14kg mark plus some giant Kingfish. Anglers are battling to stop or land the Kingies. Still plenty of squire around the reefs along with plenty of Bonito everywhere.
Beach: Some mixed reports however a few Tailor have showed up along most of the beaches with some nice green backs up to 4kg caught off Sandbar. Dart are on most beaches and a few smaller Jewfish were caught mid week on Tuncurry Beach.
