Report 20/3/15

Post by subeditor » Fri Mar 20, 2015 1:37 pm

Estuary: Over the last week conditions have been near perfect with warm windless days making fishing quite rewarding. This weather has certainly increased fish presence in the lake system. Bream are moving around the Lake with fish up to 47cm being caught while plenty of other fish around the early 40cm mark have been common. Soft Plastics such as Squidgie 80mm bloodworm Wrigglers have been getting results as are Zman Crustz. The weed beds along the Breckenridge Channel at the back of the boatsheds are full of Flathead and again soft plastics will work a treat. A few older anglers have reported that a few Blackfish have been caught in the Lake plus along the Point Rd shoreline. Both breakwalls are still fishing well with Jewfish taking live bait, plenty of Bream along the wall as well near the Kiosk up to the Commercial wharves. A few Whiting along the flats.
Rock: Charlottes Head early during the week saw a few Mack Tuna, small rat kings and plenty of Bonito caught. Some good size longtail were landed on Sunday afternoon I am told. The Tanks is producing mixed bags for those spinning metals with a few good Tailor pulled out late afternoon.
Offshore: Lakes and Ocean fishing club members last weekend hit the reefs and all anglers came home with a good feed. Snapper being cleaned at the ramp weighing 4kg was amongst a box of reds. A few local guys picked up some good Morwong in the shallows in about 8 metres of water. Further north a few guys fished off Crowdy Head and got into the Spanish Mackeral with a few fish hitting the scales at 14kg. Out wide at the FAD reports are that the Dolphin Fish are there however most are just legal or below. Good reports of quality Snapper early morning before sun up on the surface taking unweighted baits.
Beach: Beaches are starting to look good with a few Tailor being landed on Tuncurry Beach. Down south Whiting are common and will take a beach worm happily. A few Mulloway are still being caught with some good catches off Farquer beach this week.
