Report 16/4/15

Post by subeditor » Thu Apr 16, 2015 2:30 pm

Estuary: The last week has certainly bought some smiles to many anglers faces with plenty of school Mulloway being caught off the breakwall. Live bait such as herring are in good numbers as is the Pike so getting a bucket of Livies is on the cards. Reports of fish from the 65cm mark are common with some anglers getting amongst fish up to the 90cm mark. Those that are happy to use soft plastics Powerbait 6.5cm shads are working well. Flathead are slowly fading away for winter recess with only a few reports this week of nice plate size fish being caught, however the Bream now are the catch of the day. Nice Bream are being caught on unweighted whitebait amongst a light burley trail are common around the leases. A few Blackfish have started to school in the lake with a couple of local anglers dusting off the gear and getting a few early in the week along the lease washboards.
Rock: A couple of holiday makers reported that Janies Corner is producing some xtra large Tailor on ganged Pillys. A couple of Longtail Tuna have been caught off Flat Rock but be mindful of the Toothy critters amongst them.
Offshore: Plenty of good size Bonito are being caught everywhere – some fish are measuring in excess of 500mm! Trag are common at the 28m mark after dark. Still plenty of plate size snapper around at most of the reef marks before sunrise. Snapper Rock has turned on the Spotted and Spanish Mackeral again. Plenty of fish to go around with species up to the 14kg mark common.
Beach: A bit hit and miss on the beach at the moment. The week os Westerly winds have flattened the beach structure with gutters filling with sand. Those that have fished the beaches are getting a few Tailor and bream but that’s about all.
