Report 30/4/15

Post by subeditor » Thu Apr 30, 2015 2:17 pm

Estuary: Anglers have certainly enjoyed a week of sunshine and got amongst the Bream in the lake between Hells gate and the back of Hadleys Island. Fishing the racks on the rising tide from sunrise onwards is resulting in good size bream ranging from 700gr to the early kg mark. All fish were caught using either Whitebait or Chicken Gut and a constant berley trail. The breakwall is holding up with Jewies all around the 80cm mark being caught most days on the last of the run out tide. A few local guys have started to get into the Blackfish. While these fish have not really made their way to the shores as yet the racks are producing quality fish over the 40cm mark. Tailor are taking lures spun off the wall.

Rock: Another report from Charlottes Head of Northern Blues being caught along with a good 12kg fish being gaffed off Burgess Rocks as well. This fish added to the 22kg Blue caught last week from Burgess. Good Bream are off most headlands from Forster through to Seal Rocks as are the start of a few good bronze Blackfish.

Offshore: A week of big seas hasn’t helped the offshore anglers. Commercial guys have reported that there is plenty of Tailor to go around along with some bumper Kingfish taking jigs or trolled up on Xmas tree lures. A few plate size to medium reds on most reefs.

Beach: Beaches are a bit hit and miss. I have had reports of good catches and others that are on the poorer side. However in general there is some good Tailor starting to come through with down south around Blueys and Boomerang the fish are up around the 2-3kg mark. Janies corner is also working well for Tailor.Plenty of Mullet are being hauled from the beaches so this in turn should start to see the Bream follow.
We will be open on Anzac Day from 8.00am.
