Report 28/5/15

Estuary: A dirty Lake has not stopped the shop being inundated with reports of some good sized bream up around the 800gr – 1kg plus mark being caught on the rising tide. The freshwater has certainly pushed the bream to gather in the lower areas of the lake ready to spawn. The leases and Hells Gate are the areas to target within the Lake while the end of Tuncurry Breakwakk is also producing nice plump sea bream. Dean Piggins reported that he got amongst the Flathead mid week drifting Whitebaits on the flats.
Jewfish from small “soapies” to larger fish in the 12kg mark are not un common this week from the wall. The normal run out tide is still the pick with most fish taking soft plastics such as 6” Panther martins or Powerbait swim baits.
Rock: With a week early on of rough white water and surges has really got the Blackfish and Drummer back on the bite. Bob Martin and mates have fished the stones with great success this week using cunjevoi to get into the Drummer. Good reports also from the end of One Mile plus Janie’s Corner. Those at Janie’s are also landing nice Bream and some super sized tailor on the Spin.
Offshore: Not many local reports but the commercial guys tell me that there is still plenty of Bonito up north. Shane Crockett from Foster Sportfishing Charters reports of plenty of legal Jew around on the reefs plus some good Kingfish have ended up on board this week.
Beach: Beach Fishing has really fired this week with plenty of Tailor and Salmon around. Both Nine Mile and down at Booti Booti have produced the most fish. Tuncurry Beach early morning is also fishing well. A few jews are also on the beaches at the moment giving those that like the colder nights a feed to take home.
