Report 18/6/25

Post by subeditor » Thu Jun 18, 2015 1:15 pm

Estuary: A great week on the Lake with great reports starting to come through on good Blackfish catches. The fish are not as yet down along the breakwall, however if you fish up in the lake towards Hells Gate and along the lease wash boards you should get a feed. Bream are still in good numbers with a few good reports of quality fish in and around the mid 30cm mark common. The leases opposite Barclay’s Oyster Shed is firing just on dark fishing gut bait on a light rig. Lure anglers are equally getting results working small hard bodies along the shallow weed beds again on dusk or early morning.
Rock: Sorry no reports this week!!
Offshore: Better conditions this week has bought more fish back to the cleaning tables. Reefs up north in 30 metres has produced plenty of snapper from small plate size fish up to fish weighing in at 5kg plus. Flathead are in good numbers on the gravelbeds. Commercial Fisherman have reported plenty of Trag everywhere although they are only on the chew at night. Still a few Bonito around up off Blackhead and further north. The biggest fish of the week goes to the Great Whites that have been visiting anglers. Shane Crockett had a 4 metre white circle his boat for over 15 minutes on Tuesday while having a taste of his outboard leg. Other commercial guys also had visits of GW’s later in the week.

Beach: Plenty of Tailor along all local beaches along with a few good Salmon. Most reports are that the Tailor will take Pilchards over a metal lure. Nice fish were caught along Seven Mile late in the afternoon before sunset with one fish hitting the measuring tape at 68cm.
