Report 10/7/15

Post by subeditor » Fri Jul 10, 2015 1:56 pm

Estuary: A few mulloway have been caught along the Tuncurry and Forster Breakwalls using live baits and soft plastics. Most fish are just over the legal mark with most guys landing these fish on the last hour of the run-out tide, whether that be day or night. Lake fishing over the last week has been rewarding with plenty of big tailor being caught. These are common around the bridge pillions early morning and at dusk into the night, whilst further up the lake near The Step reports are that plenty are schooling up there as well. Most of these are being taken on metal lures. Heaps of quality bream are being caught throughout the Lake on baits such as Mullet Gut and soft lures. A few good Flathead are being caught on the drift along the back of the boats sheds in the Breckenridge Channel.
Rock: Outstanding is the word around town with the best of the tailor coming from the rocks along with some great captures of drummer, blackfish and plenty of nice fat silver bream.

Offshore: A couple of boats have headed out wide over the last week onto the shelf and have picked up a couple of Bar Cod. Yellowfin tuna are still yet to fire in our area which when they do will add a nice mix to the fishtubs. In closer, all reefs are fishing well for snapper and down south the pearl perch are on. Leatherjackets are around but still not in plague numbers like previous years. Some boats are working in close to rocky headlands successfully fishing for tailor with still a few Bonito around. Gravel beds are loaded with Flathead for those that want a quick trip to grab a feed!

Beach: This time of year the beaches are very good with miles of Tailor to be caught . A few Jewfish have been landed around Treachery Beach.

We are pleased to announce that our store has once again been nominated for the third year running as a national finalist in the AFTA Best Tackle Store national awards.
