Report 21/8/15

Post by Nicole Penfold » Fri Aug 21, 2015 2:16 pm

Estuary: The last week has seen a huge increase in the bream numbers along the breakwall. Both walls are firing with fish being dragged out in excess of 1.5kg. All fish are taking baits with not many reports of lures working. A have had the odd report of some small soapie Jews back along the wall. These have been taking plastics with the new Power Bait 6” Shads working a treat. Blackfish are still in huge numbers with Tuncurry Point working well on the run in plus a few guys have braved the cold wading across to Tern Island for some great catches. Up in the Lake Blackfish are plentiful around the leases while the Wallamba River has had some great Flathead catches during the week. Commercial guys have reported that crabs are starting back with plenty of Muddies and the odd Blue Swimmer ending up in the traps.

Rock: The drummer fishing remains on fire with the last week plenty of fish being caught. Cunjevoi or cooked prawns were the choice of baits fished in the wash after a good bread burley trail. Bream also are out along the Janies Corner shoreline in good numbers but don’t fish too heavy. Tailor are amongst the Bream.

Offshore: Guess what? The Leather Jackets are with us with sizes ranging from small 50cm guys up to the larger 75cm ones. Wire is certainly needed otherwise be prepared to lose gear. Very good quality large Snapper being caught up off Old Bar and Crowdy. Caine Loreton and mates fished that way last Saturday for a good swag of reds ranging from good plate size of 2.5kg up to thumpers weighing in at 7kg.

Beach: The recent run of great beach fishing continues with Tailor still thick along Nine Mile near the back of the caravan park. Elizabeth Beach has started to produce nice Whiting late afternoon while the back of Tiona at Dusk has some very nice Tailor. Bronze Whalers are lurking around the beach areas with a few guys hooking up at night.

With Fathers Day just around the corner why not pop in and grab a bargain. Samaki Rods and Tonic Sunglasses are less 20% till Fathers Day – mention this report!
