14/5/06 Weekly Report

Post by Tony Zann » Sun May 14, 2006 10:10 am

Offshore: Unfortunately no boats have been operating out wide, so the game fishing situation remains a bit of an unknown. In closer, mahi mahi remain common around the FAD and other floating structure. Some quality pearl perch been caught around the Seal Rocks area along with some small snapper. Small to just legal kings are coming off most reefs. Cobia have again been caught over the last week, with Latitude Rock and The Graveyard the places to be. Plenty of big tailor around Cape Hawke. Sharks of various species are everywhere.
Beaches: Some excellent tailor have come from most beaches, in particular Seven Mile after dark, and Diamond Beach to our north. Some bream are being caught, but general consensus is that the best of the bream are yet to come.
Rocks: LBG is still underway, but sharks are a problem. Bream, tailor and drummer are best to target.
Estuary: A great run of mulloway is currently being experienced, no doubt due to the enormous amount of bait fish in and around the breakwalls. Some travelling bream have been reported in the lower part of the estuary in the last few days, just in time for this weekends Megabucks competition.
