Report 4/9/15

Post by Nicole Penfold » Fri Sep 04, 2015 10:41 am

Estuary: The lake remains crystal clear after weeks of little or no rain although the last 24 hrs has seen a little drop! This is starting to make fishing a little difficult with the fish especially the Bream seeing you before you arrive. To get results stay back and try for a longer cast. I am told that further up the lake around cockle weed beds near the back of Wallis Island the fishing is much better. Guys that are fishing these areas with lures are reporting good captures of bream and the start of a few and I mean very few sand whiting are around. Blackfish are still in good numbers and over the last week some nice Flathead have moved down onto the Flats from upstream and are happily taking soft plastics wriggler style. Due to the lack of rain and with salinity levels high, Bream in and around the 35cm plus mark have been common in the mid to upper reaches of the rivers. Try from Darawank up to Failford along the shoreline in close.

Rock: A bit quite on the rock this week. Ricky Tobin got amongst some good Drummer and Gropher last weekend down along the southern rock ledges and that is the only report I have.

Offshore: Snapper fishing is still at its best with good quantities and qualities of fish being reported. A lot are well over legal size and have been taken mainly on soft plastics with a few older guys still persisting with bait. Flathead are guaranteed out in The Barge with nice fish around the 50cm mark common. Jackets are around but not in the numbers that we normally expect.

Beach: Seven Mile Beach has again produced an excellent week of tailor fishing with the northern end near Janies Corner working the best. Janies off the rocks will also get results. Up north at Farquer some nice Jewfish are being caught at night while closer to town Off One Mile some nice Bream are taking either Whitebait or Hawkesbury Prawn baits in the gutters on high tide.

For Father's Day, buy Dad a voucher for $100 and we'll throw in another $20 for free! Or mention this report and get 20% off Samaki Rods and Tonic sunglasses till Fathers Day.
