Reports 11/9/15

Post by Nicole Penfold » Fri Sep 11, 2015 3:33 pm

Estuary: Again both breakwalls have seen some quality bream in close drifting a whaitebait or prawn down in the current whilst we have also seen a bit of mulloway action on the Tuncuury Wall on the run out tide. A few days ago I had a report of some nice kingfish chasing bait up the Breckenridge channel. Throw a small metal lure in amongst these and you may well get a strike. Blackfish are still in stupid numbers with bag limits achieved in under a hour. Fish nearly reaching 50cm have been caught this week along the Forster wall. A couple of visitors fished the flats on Thursday in Kayaks for some nice Flathead while the locals have just started to get into the Trumpter Whiting early morning.

Rock: There have been a few second-hand reports of snapper and mulloway off the rocks down South near Boomerang and further down but no proof on this. Janies Corner is holding good Tailor and Bream.

Offshore: The last few days have seen the sea conditions at their best with plenty of anglers making the trip offshore. A couple of the old guys in town have got amongst heaps of Flathead with fish around the 40cm mark plentiful. Snapper and pearl perch still in good numbers on the reefs. Sharks are continuing to be a bit of a problem with a few ‘half’ fish being pulled up. As the warm currents start approaching our area this hopefully will back off as the sharks head south for summer. This weekend is shaping up as a cracker so dust off the gear, grab some soft plastics and head north. I am sure you will get a good ’reddie’ or two.

Beach: Nice Tailor early morning off Seven Mile. Davis Thompson from the Tuncuury PO got a good feed on Tuesday morning but you need to be onto them by sunrise. A few scattered Whiting are around so grab the worm pliers, catch a few worms and try your luck.
