Report 25/9/15

Post by Nicole Penfold » Sat Sep 26, 2015 11:14 am

Estuary: Bream numbers have started to thin down a bit this week to what we have been used to however anglers are not complaining as the flathead have really started to be active chasing soft plastics and baits alike. Trumpeter whiting have started to move in and are presently up in the Lake near The Step. They are taking beachworms or small Gulp soft plastic worms. Blackfish remain in numbers in the normal lake spots. Back on Flatties - reports have been received of fish up to the 50cm mark around the islands with the drift at the south of Tern Island very productive on the flats. Brecken ridge Channel near the back of Colonels Cafe also will get results on the drift using whitebait.

Rock: With this week’s absolute shocking winds and seas I think most rock hoppers have stayed tucked up in bed.

Offshore: Again not much to report with really only 1-2 days this week fishable offshore. What I did hear was plenty of Flatties out on the gravel with sizes up and around the 60cm common. Heaps of Rock Cod on the reefs along with smaller plate size Snapper in about the 20-30 metre mark. Most of these fish are being caught on soft plastics like the Z Man Streakz or Squidgy Flick baits on a light 1/4oz head. Not much more to report due to weather.

Beach: Pretty quite with the odd Tailor being spun up. Bream were in good numbers last weekend around the northern end of Seven Mile plus along the Janies Corner rock shoreline. A few guys mucked around with some small sharks off Farquer and Old Bar beaches on Monday night.
All in all a pretty dull week due to the weather so let’s hope the next week and long weekend is kind to us all.
For those travelling to our area over the school holidays we will be open 7 days from 8.00am for all your fishing requirements.
