Report 9/10/15

Estuary: Spring has sprung well and truly with good results over the long weekend plus during the last few days. Flathead are rampant along most of the island drop offs with fish up to 70cm common however the majority of catches are around the 45cm mark. Most fish have been caught on the drift flicking White Bait, plastics or Live Shrimp lures up towards the shore on the run out tide. Bream are still hanging around with Damian Gough landing two beautiful fish off Tern Island measuring 42 and 37cm respectively. Both fish caught on Gulp 2” Shrimp plastics. Both break walls are still producing Blackfish in good numbers plus the washboards along the racks also has good numbers holding up. Trumpter Whiting are still plentiful on the top of the tide, but you will need to travel down the back of the lake a bit. A few guys also did well off Green Point using surface lures for a few Sandies! Last weekends heatwave got the Bass Anglers excited with a few guys heading up to the Wallamaba Weir. Fish were caught but only in small sizes, so we may need to wait a few more weeks for some bigger fish.

Rock: Seems to be that the rock hoppers have put their gear away. Very few reports other than a couple of holiday makers got a good bag of legal Bream off Burgess last Sunday morning.

Offshore: Offshore is working well and really would have to be the pick at the moment. Most reefs allowing anglers to get a good feed with shallow waters in the 10 metre mark producing nice snapper. Trag are still around after dark but you will need to go wide in the 40m plus mark to get amongst them. Quality Snapper up to the 6kg mark are up north and will chase plastics all day I am told that they are biting the best high in the water column. Still plenty of Flathead to go around, with The Barge rewarding all that drop a line down.

Beach: Back of Tiona has plenty of Bream happily taking beach worms or small strips of Salted Blue Bait. Diamond Beach at the back of the resort has seen a few Tailor and Salmon taking metal spinners.
