Report 16/10/15

Estuary: The lake continues to produce quality catches with Flathead and Whiting the predominant species at the moment. With next weeks tides showing a run out every afternoon this should be best time to chase a few Flatties late afternoon. Bream fishing has been more successful for those that prefer bait. Lure fishos commented that the bream were very slow to take a lure, be it soft or hard – probably due to the clear water! Jewfish action is almost non-existent along the wall although some good blackfish are still holding on the Forster side.

Rock: I spoke with a few guys who have trekked out to the rocks over the last week who have reported that blackfish or drummer have been in good numbers and size.

Offshore: The best of the snapper have been caught early in the morning on sunrise. Another week of Reds to 6kg have been reported and in most cases are all caught on soft plastics such as ZMan 7” StreakZ. Inshore shallow reefs are the best using light gear and small weights. Morwong and Pigfish have been a common by-catch of those chasing snapper along with plenty of Rock Cod for the guys that persist to fish the bottom. All other assorted reef rubbish are also taking baits.

Beach: Last weekend provided some good catches for those sand lubbers. A great run of Tailor early morning was the pick of the action with some fish up around the 4kg mark taking ganged pillies. Down south the start of some quality Sand Whiting have been found with some Sandies measuring in at 38cm. Pick of the baits and virtually the only thing that is working is local beach worms.
