Report 7/11/15

Post by Nicole Penfold » Mon Nov 09, 2015 9:29 am

Estuary: The Jewfish have started to return to the breakwall and beach, with a couple of good reports over the last week received. Most fish are only small at around the 15lb mark but this is a good sign for the summer months. Some anglers are hitting the water with whole squid while others are still getting good results on larger soft plastics. Further up the lake the Trumpter whiting have been active between Hells Gate and The Step. Most mornings the channel will be blocked by boats chasing these tasty table fares with good results by most boats. Flathead have been everywhere. The weir on the Wallamba River is a good spot to get amongst the Bass while further west on the Upper Manning River around Mt George Bass to 60cm are common at night on surface Lures.

Rock: Some great Drummer have been caught off most stones close to town but you need to be there at first light. Big winds have made fishing a little hard later in the day or in the afternoon.

Offshore: A very poor week of weather has seen few boats go to sea. The days seem to improve only to go “pear shaped” as you get the boat ready! A few guys headed out early on Saturday morning and got a few good size Flathead and some smaller reds on close reefs.

Beach: Tuncurry Beach has fired well for Tailor and Bream. However the last weeks inclement weather has made beach fishing difficult for most.
