Report 18/12/15

Estuary: The Bridge on the Tuncurry side is fishing exceptionally well for those chasing flathead from land. Fishing up near the inspectors shed and closer to Hamiltons Oysters will get you into the Flathead. Fish with a 1/4oz jighead and a Zman Streakz or a Black/Gold Squidgie Fish for the best results. Whiting numbers are holding and are still taking beach worms as the preferred bait. Some very good reports this week of quality bream in amongst the racks chasing small chunk style hard bodies.

Further down south at Smiths Lake if you want a feed of Sand Whiting head this way. I am told by locals down there that the schools are putting up a bow wave as they swim along the flats. Lures such as a Sugapen 70 or a Atomic Pop 50 wading in knee deep water will get you a feed. Fast retrieve and do not stop is the key – the fun is watching the Whiting fight over the popper.

Rock: No reports at all this week – sorry!

Offshore: A few guys headed out to where the FAD should be last weekend but found that it had disappeared! On the way back they trolled a new Samaki Pacemaker lure and jumped onto some ‘horse’ kingfish. Fish up to the 1.2m mark were caught plus plenty of others around the 80cm mark. Reports also were that a few Mako Sharks were also hanging around the boat while they were fishing for a feed of Flathead and were quite happy to take their catch on the surface. Still plenty of plate size Reds on most of the reefs taking plastics along with some super size Nannygai.

Beach: A good week on Seven Mile beach for the Jew fishos. A few good size 30lb fish were caught early in the week on squid baits however later in the week they thinned out a bit. Plenty of Whiting taking our famous beach worms on high tide in the gutters along with the pesky Dart as a by catch.
A reminder to all our visiting friends that will be over the Christmas Period we will be open 7 days a week from 8.00am till late.
