Report 13/3/16

Post by Nicole Penfold » Wed Mar 16, 2016 3:20 pm

Estuary: This week has certainly improved a lot in the lake with Flathead deciding to come out of hiding and up onto the flats to sun themselves on. Reports have come in with fish all around the 50cm- 60cm mark common with most fish being caught on either bait such as Hawkesbury river prawns or soft plastic paddle tail style. Plenty of Whiting around, with some anglers easily getting their bag limit each morning. Try under the bridge Tuncurry Side for the best results. Bream are patchy but what is being caught is nothing but outstanding. Miles of bait around with plenty of Herring and Yellowtail in and around the wharves.
A few Blackfish have started to move around with fish schooling up around the lease areas. Reports of Tailor lurking around the Breakwall busting off gear.

Rock: Good reports of nice fish around the rocks in the town area with mixed species from Bream up to good size Kings amongst them. A few Sharks were sighted in close along Bennetts Head early in the week chasing bait fish around.

Offshore: Plenty of Dolphin Fish at the FAD. King Fish are in big numbers with many reports this week of good size fish up to the 25kg mark being caught. Shane Crockett from Forster Sportsfishing Charters reported that his crew landed seven from nine fish on Tuesday all on Slimies for bait. Other recreational fisho’s have also landed some nice fish as well. Up north the Snapper on the reefs have held up with nice fish in the 4kg mark happily taking pillys. Rock Cod are in plague numbers, but hey a box of these can certainly make a great meal if filleted and skinned.

Beach: Tuncurry Beach seems to be the pick this week with Flathead by the box full. The later part of this week has seen fish up to 68cm being caught compared to last week where getting a legal fish was impossible. A small gang hook set up coupled with a salted Blue Bait is the pick. Good Tailor are scattered amongst them and plenty have been caught using the simple ½ x ¼ metal slug lure. Plenty of good hook ups this week and long runs by a few guys but all have had the fish score 1 and the angler 0!
