Report 22/4/16

Post by Nicole Penfold » Fri Apr 22, 2016 10:31 pm

Estuary: Plenty of nice bream being caught around the lake with the cockle beds working well using unweighted baits. Shallow flats along the Green Point shoreline are also working well with reports of big fish breaking the surface with their tail fins. Again a very lightly weighted bait or even a small hard body popper will get results. Flathead are still around the flats and are laying amongst the weedy banks. Most are being caught on soft plastics with Ecooda Live Shrimp lures working the best skipped along the bottom. Crabs are still everywhere with reports of both Muddies and Blue swimmers being caught.

Rock: Plenty of action along most shorelines with a few Drummer around taking black crabs. Reports are that other species of fish are also grabbing baits and heading back into the caves and under rocks. My thinking is that a few eels may well be around. Bream up to 40cm mark are there for the taking as are plenty of good size Red rock cod. Cobia are being spun up along the southern rocks with a young spearo taking a good fish measuring 1.3m on Tuesday.

Offshore: Snapper up to 8kg are being taken north in about 25 metres. Caine Loreton and crew got amongst some quality fish last weekend with the best weighing in at just over 8kg down to smaller fish around the 3kg mark. Soft Plastics on a light jig head is the pick of the gear here. Spanish and Spotted Mackeral are still everywhere however don’t bother cahsing them unless you have live bait. A few guys have thrown metals at them plus tried a slow troll with hard bodies and never got a hit. John Davis and Rick got into the Dolphin fish at the FAD during the week with some quality fish amongst the catch. Normal grounds still have plenty of Flathead. Trag are there both day and night.
Beach: Plenty of Tailor have moved in along the beaches with early morning the pick. A few school Jewfish are along Seven Mile plus heaps of Dart everywhere.
