Reports 5/5/16

Post by Nicole Penfold » Mon May 09, 2016 5:43 pm

Estuary: The autumn weather gods have certainly made life easy for local anglers. With picture perfect days, crisp mornings and near perfect seas plenty of reports are flooding in. Bream up to the 1kg mark are being caught in the Lake on both lures and baits. Bait fishos are having trouble going past whole white bait or local beach worms. Rig these up and throw a bit of burley around to entice the fish and it is hard not to miss. Over the next few nights with king tides covering the racks early evening should be a good time to get out there and try for some bream. Tuncurry breakwall is still fishing well with again heaps of bream plus the odd nice Mulloway up around the 85cm mark have been landed. Blackfish are still plentiful around the oyster racks although sourcing green weed or cabbage is proving hard to come by. Plenty of Mullet around with schools as big as ‘footy fields’ in the Lake.

Rock: Plenty of solid reports from regular rock anglers of Northern Blue and Mack Tuna off Charlottes Head and along from Shellys beach. Sharks are also big Tigers, Bronzies and Nurses hanging around to get their feed as well. Bennetts Head is performing with Tailor as is Janies Corner for a few Bream and tailor on dusk.

Offshore: Heaps and I mean heaps of baitfish are everywhere. Mack Tuna are having a field day chasing these on the surface. Offshore this week has produced plenty of good table fish with snapper on the chew up north. The soft plastic guys report that if you simply cast your plastic out and feed out a extra 20m or so line and let the drift and the boat motion do the work it is virtually a hook up every cast. Gulp Orange Tiger 6” Grubs are the gun plastic at the moment. Plenty of Trag around both day and night.

Beach: The tailor numbers are getting better off most beaches. Blueys Beach has produced a few good Jews taking worm baits at night while the bream remain solid.
