Report 13/5/16

Post by Nicole Penfold » Fri May 13, 2016 3:19 pm

Estuary: With the lake so crystal clear catching a fish this week has proved a bit of a challenge. We are yet to see the migratory bream come into the lake as they continue to sit off shore around the headlands. Due to the lack of rain and the clear conditions the resident bream seem to be scattered all over the lake as far up the river as the highway bridge. The lack of freshwater from the rain gods is allowing the entire lake system to ‘salt’ up hence allowing fish to move freely. A few chopper tailor have been cruising the estuary from as close as the bridge right down to the The Step. Leatherjackets are in good numbers around the oyster racks, while the Blackfish seem to still be a bit slow to move down along the wall. Flathead numbers are still there although you will need to work the flats extensively. Tuncurry Breakwall over the last week has produced some nice legal jewfish late afternoon into the early evening.

Rock: Good reports of drummer, blackfish and tailor have been receivbed this week. As mentioned above, travelling bream have been firing along the coast early in the week so hopefully they will end up in the estuary system soon.

Offshore: Absolute nothing out wide however the reef fishing is still good with plenty of good table size reds around. Most boats have done well over the last week with the early morning the pick of the times. Reefs up north like Elsie and wide of Snapper Rock are working well. A few Tailor are common around Latitude Rock with a few small kings seen in close working bait schools. Sharks are very common with more than plenty reports this week. Species from Tigers down to small reef sharks seem to be everywhere.

Beach: Tailor are in steady numbers however reports are vary from day to day with some days fishing well while others are a little hit and miss. Diamond Beach and Seven Mile have been the best.

That's good to hear Graysie, I'll pass on that feedback to Brad and Lisa!
