Report 27/5/16

Post by Nicole Penfold » Fri May 27, 2016 3:50 pm

Estuary: The lake conditions are once again perfect with Bream numbers holding amongst the racks. Bream up to 47cm to the fork have been caught this week while a lot of fish around the early 40cm mark have also been common. Soft Plastics like the new Boom Baits in Spider Prawn pattern are working a treat rigged on a hidden weight jighead and cast over the racks at high tide. Breckenridge Channel is still producing Flathead on the run out tide and again soft plastics will work a treat. Blackfish numbers are still big and agin you will need to work the structure around the lake to get a feed. Tuncurry breakwall is fishing well with a few Jewfish taking live bait or a dead whole squid. Bream are in close and will happily take whitebait along the wall edges.

Rock: The boys tell me that Charlottes Head last weekend and early this week fired with plenty of Mack Tuna, small kings and plenty of sharks. We also heard a second hand report of Cobia also out there. Forster rock spots are producing mixed bags of Tailor, Drummer and good size Blackfish. Good reports of quality Snapper around Blackhead.

Offshore: Snapper remain the species to catch at the moment with most shallow reefs full of fish. Fishing this week have ranged from the good plate size of 3kg up to 7.5kg. Most fish are being caught in the 8-10metre mark with by far soft plastics are the best way to have a successful day. I will let the secret out of which plastics are working – try Gulp 6” Nemesis, Boom Baits 5” Forking Jerk or a Z Man Scented Jerk Shadz. Rig these up on a light jig head. Jewfish remain strong with a few commercial fishos getting quality fish during the week in close. Tailor in all sizes are in mass.

Beach: Beaches are working well with plenty of Tailor starting to fill in. A few Jews are still being caught with some good catches up north around Farquer early this week. Bream are there in good size but in small numbers.

Well guys that is it from me. After writing about 350 reports and 20 odd years off and on in the tackle industry it's time for me to hand over the reins and start fishing again. The new proprietors of Great Lakes Tackle will be Luke Austin and Katrina Cameron. As from next week Luke will be submitting future reports. Thanks to all those people who have come into the shop for tips, tackle and bait after finding us via this report. Special thanks also to Nicole at Fishing Monthly plus the boys at 2sm Hi Tide Fishing show.
