Report 15/7/16

Post by Nicole Penfold » Fri Jul 15, 2016 2:19 pm

Estuary: Once again reports coming from the estuary have been dominated by Bream, Luderick and Flathead. The Luderick fishing has been very hit and miss, some anglers easily catching their bag while others struggle to get any downs at all. One thing that is common for all anglers is the lack of fresh weed that is locally available, most anglers have been having to resort to using weed sourced elsewhere and the origin of the bait being used could very well be the difference between catching fish and not catching fish! While the Bream have slowed a bit over the last couple of weeks, they are still in good numbers. Visiting anglers have been delighted by the abundance of quality Bream and how easily hey have been to catch. A simple rig consisting of a small running sinker and a #1 hook baited with mullet gut or mullet strips is almost guaranteed to pick up a few fish! The local Mulloway have been playing the game over the last week, no reports of really big fish, but lots of reports of fish up to 90cm being taken on soft plastics such as the 6” Powerbait Shad’s. One local angler delved well into double figures in just a couple of days’ fishing!

Rock: The rocks continue to fish well. Tailor have been a bit hit and miss with some anglers finding fish easily while others struggle to find any at all. Drummer and Bream continue to play the game as there has been a nice amount of swell about providing the right conditions for them to feed.

Offshore: Once again we have been punished with terrible weather as far as offshore fishing is concerned. Strong westerly winds, cold temperatures and decent amounts of swell have kept a lot of boats in the shed. Those that have snuck out to the inshore reefs have found a few snapper and Teragalin along with the marauding hoards of winter Leatherjackets!

Beach: It would seem that the beaches are just too cold to fish from at the moment, reports have been non-existent this week!
It’s looking like a nice weekend with light-ish variable winds forecast. Get out there and make the most of it! Happy Fishing.
