Report 30/12/16

Estuary: Even with the insane amount of traffic on the water, Wallis Lake is still fishing really well. Most anglers are targeting the local Flathead population and are finding great success using a combination of soft plastics and drifted baits of Whitebait or Pilchards. Both Sand Whiting and Trumpeter Whiting are abundant at this time of year, the Sand Whiting are only getting thicker in numbers, the Trumpeters are still in good numbers but the size has decreased somewhat over the past week or so. Both species have been taking baits well along with worm profile soft plastics such as the 2’’ Gulp in natural or camo colours. Top water fishing is also a great option this time of the year, by sneaking further up into the estuary and finding some likely looking sand flats and weed beds you will be amazed at how many quality Whiting, Bream and Flathead you will find.

Beaches: Once again the constant NE winds have made the beaches all but unfishable. The best bet has been to fish the northern corners of the beaches targeting Whiting and Bream on Beach Worms or Pipi’s. There are still a few nice Tailor sneaking about the beaches and headlands too so soaking a Pilchard or two may be a good option early in the morning.

Rocks: Reports coming from the rocks have been few and far between, that wind has been horrific! The reports that have come through have followed on from last week: plenty of bait and hordes of small Kingfish and Sharks!

Offshore: There have only been a few reports coming from the offshore scene this week. Those that managed to get out reported that while the fishing was a little on the slow side there were still plenty of Snapper and Flathead about to fill their eskies!

Have a great weekend and all the best for the New Year.
