Report 10/2/17

Estuary: The fishing in Wallis Lake has plateaued somewhat over the past week. It is still fishing quite well for Flathead and Whiting but the bite isn’t as hot as it has been over the past month. Tossing soft plastics and soft vibes on a run out tide continues to be the tactic of choice with some anglers reporting huge numbers of Flatheads being boated. Drifting with baits of Poddy Mullet, Mullet fillet, Whitebait and Yabbies is also worth a try and should produce a fish or two. Doing the same drift with Beach Worms or Yabbies is also likely to produce some cracking Sand and Trumpeter Whiting.

Beaches: The beach fishing has been all but a non-event over the past week. The local beaches have been terribly weeded up with a lovely mix of Kelp and Red Weed. For the fishermen that managed to find some clear gutters there have been great numbers of Whiting and Dart with the occasional Bream and Flathead thrown into the mix.

Rocks: Once again the weather and sea conditions have made rock fishing fairly difficult over the past week. Bonito, Frigate Mackerel and small
Kingfish continue to fish really well with some huge Kingfish sneaking about amongst them. One local had a ball trying to stop monster Kingfish that were falling for whole dead Bonito fished on the bottom. Of the three he managed to hook, he saw all of them but landed none!

Offshore: Offshore fishing continues to be a tough gig. If there is a window in between the NE winds there is definitely a chance of scoring a nice feed of reef fish, Teragalin and Snapper are making up the majority of catches. The FAD continues to disappoint unfortunately as it only seems to be holding small Mahi Mahi and Kingfish.

Have a lovely weekend.
